東方蒔夢原 ~ Champaign of Unfinished Dreams Press Release

東方蒔夢原~Champaign of Unfinished Dreams Press Release

Anyone who is familiar with fangame development will know how hard it is. How often projects will fizzle out with a whimper, how often prospective fangames die off, taking their creator’s dreams along with them.

Behind every dead fangame, is a cast of characters whose stories will never be told. But what if some spirits, born from the forgotten desires of their creators, wanted to create a game in which they could truly exist?

Touhou Jimugen (Touhou Dreamyard)  ~ Champaign of Unfinished Dreams (東方蒔夢原~Champaign of Unfinished Dreams) or CoUD is CnD’s third Touhou-style music album, made in collaboration with Akinomiya Asuka. As with all “fake fangame” albums, it contains all of the music, artwork, and story that would appear in a theoretical Touhou game.

Akinomiya originally created CoUD as just a fake fangame concept. After being enamoured by the concept, CnD decided to reach out to her in order to turn it into an album. 22 composers contributed to the music, while all of the artwork and story was produced by Akinomiya.

English Trailer for CoUD

The style of the video is heavily inspired by the album videos of Burnyuho and Khirio. It features stages and dialogue scenes mocked up to look like they’re from a fangame. Specific character bios are also shown in the boss segments.

CoUD will be simultaneously released in Mandarin, English, and Japanese on October 3rd 2021, at 9am EST. The English and Japanese versions can be accessed through CnD’s youtube channel, while the Mandarin version can be viewed on Bilibili. Make sure to check CnD Twitter for more upcoming news!
