Bunbunmaru Extra No.16 Press Release
Press Release for Bunbunmaru Extra No.16
Bunbunmaru Extra (BBEX) is organized by the doujin circle and Hispanic community known as Paradise of Boundaries. Our beginnings date back to 2011, under the leadership of Orphen Nightford. In its early years, we primarily operated as a forum, but after a brief hiatus, we resumed our activities in 2017, this time establishing our community on Discord.
Among our featured projects is the creation of the danmaku fangame “Ruinous Enclosure of Heaven” and the fanmade album “Otherworldly Paradox”. In addition to these productions, we engage in music remastering, composing original pieces, and translating official Touhou games into Latin Spanish.
One of our flagship projects is Bunbunmaru Extra, commonly known as BBEX. This project is a collaborative effort involving Touhou Project fans who can contribute fanart, articles, fangame previews, videos, demos, and any content related to Touhou Project. All these elements are gathered and presented in a digital magazine that represents the heart of BBEX. Recently, under the organization of Paradise of Boundaries, we have begun publishing it accompanied by a livestream informative event known as BBEX Direct, where we showcase all the projects that are part of the magazine.
Bunbunmaru Extra has its roots in the Bunbunmaru Forums, one of the first Spanish-speaking communities related to Touhou Project. These forums emerged in 2008 and unfortunately closed their doors as a community in 2019. Bunbunmaru Forums drew inspiration from a similar and discontinued project of similar nature known as Another Dream, an English-speaking fan magazine that aimed to compile works by Western fans. This is how the first edition of BBEX was published in October 2010, and continued to be published almost annually by Bunbunmaru Forums until volume number 11. However, starting from edition number 12 onwards, and considering the imminent prospect of closure, the Bunbunmaru community decided to merge with Paradise of Boundaries to ensure the continuity of the magazine. Since 2019, Paradise of Boundaries has been responsible for developing and publishing BBEX.
The fundamental purpose of BBEX is to gather and showcase the creative work of fans, circles, and communities dedicated to Touhou Project, with the goal of fostering fan creativity in the community. Furthermore, we present this content in an entertaining format that allows the community to come together once a year to enjoy all these creations. BBEX is the largest event in the Hispanic community, and this year we have decided to expand it to the international community, so we will release both a Spanish and an English version. This release will be accompanied by our usual livestream event BBEX Direct, which will be subtitled in English, Spanish, French, and Japanese.
It’s important to emphasize that BBEX is a nonprofit project, created by fans for fans, that began as a modest semi-annual magazine on a forum and has grown in recognition and scope year after year.
The deadline for contributions to this year’s BBEX is November 1, 2023, and the publication and official announcement will take place in December. Consider checking us out!
